APEC-Canada Growing Business Partnership

MSMEs in Thailand face challenges in adopting sustainable practices, achieving gender equality, embracing digital literacy, and transitioning to circular entrepreneurship. These barriers hinder their ability to compete in an evolving economic landscape that demands innovation, inclusivity, and resilience.

The project aligns with Canadian policies and focuses on gender equality, sustainability, innovation, and inclusivity to support Thai MSMEs. It focuses on empowering women, advancing sustainable business practices, enhancing digital literacy, and uplifting business skills in areas such as digital marketing, financial management, and inclusive supply chains. This initiative aligns with Thailand’s Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model and international frameworks such as the SDGs, the Paris Agreement, and WEPs, supporting cross-border collaboration and sustainable growth.

The project’s overarching objective is to enhance the capacity of Thai MSMEs to adapt to modern economic demands. Through a combination of targeted workshops, mentorship programs, and research, it empowers entrepreneurs—particularly women—to embrace sustainable and inclusive business practices. These efforts aim to build resilience, improve market access, and promote long-term growth for MSMEs in an increasingly competitive and interconnected global economy.

About the Project

The APEC-Canada Growing Business Partnership is a transformative initiative designed to empower entrepreneurs, with a strong focus on women. It aims to enhance sustainable business practices, promote gender inclusion, and advance digital literacy. By equipping participants with essential knowledge, skills, and opportunities, the project helps entrepreneurs build networks, manage their businesses effectively, and achieve sustainable growth.

Activities

The project comprises three key activities: workshops, mentorship and a research study.

Workshop Series:

  • Introductory and Intensive 2-Day Workshops: Workshop sessions aim to raise awareness about digital marketing, e-commerce, and circular economy principles and provide hands-on learning on digital marketing, e-commerce, circular economy principles, and business skills like planning, financial management, and sustainability.
  • Virtual Training Sessions: Interactive sessions on topics like gender-responsive practices, AI for small businesses, and sustainability, using webinars and online resources to deepen engagement and reinforce learning.
  • Networking Events: These events create opportunities for MSMEs to share experiences, learn from peers, establish potential business partnerships, and explore new market opportunities.

The workshop series uses a blended learning model, combining in-person workshops, virtual training, and networking opportunities to provide flexible, accessible learning tailored to diverse needs.

MSME Mentorship Program:

  • Mentorship Program: This personalized program connects participants with experienced business mentors who provide tailored guidance to help mentees apply their learning in real-world scenarios. The program focuses on women and young entrepreneurs.

Research Study: Embracing Circular Entrepreneurship: A Pathway to Sustainable Growth for Thai MSMEs

This research study aims to explore and identify best practices in circular entrepreneurship, providing actionable insights to drive sustainable growth for Thai MSMEs. The findings will serve as a foundation to disseminate knowledge and inspire the adoption of innovative, sustainable business models across Thailand.

Expected Result

This project aims to strengthen the capabilities of MSMEs, particularly women-led enterprises, by equipping them to adopt sustainable practices and innovative approaches for effective business operations. Participants will gain essential knowledge through workshops, including business management, financial literacy, marketing, and sustainable practices, enabling them to create effective business plans and strategies while enhancing their adaptability to future challenges.
The initiative fosters meaningful connections through networking events, linking entrepreneurs with mentors, peers, business associations, and expert consultants. These relationships enhance collaboration, resilience, and engagement within the business ecosystem. Moreover, mentorship programs will provide hands-on experience and practical guidance, empowering participants to implement their learning in real-world scenarios. Additionally, selected participants will receive supporting grants to advance their business operations.

In terms of research, the project aims to identify barriers and best practices for implementing circular business models. It will develop tools and strategies specifically tailored for Thai MSMEs to promote sustainable growth and enhance their resilience. These efforts will result in a more inclusive and competitive MSME ecosystem.
