Promotion of Adolescent Healthy Lifestyles Phase 2

Objective:

The “Promotion of Adolescent Healthy Lifestyles” aims to promote healthy behaviors and well-being among adolescents in Thailand’s three southern border provinces by increasing awareness and understanding of healthy practices, strengthening adult support systems, and creating an environment conducive to healthy lifestyles.

Output 1: Healthy Lifestyle Model developed and integrated into DLEC Curriculum

Develop a Promotion of Adolescent Healthy Lifestyles curriculum to enable District Learning Encouragement Center (DLEC) teachers to apply it effectively with their students. The curriculum will build on the knowledge, approaches, and successful results from Phase 1, while adapting content and learning methodologies to align with the social, cultural, and geographical context of the three southern border provinces. The curriculum will emphasize experiential and participatory learning through a variety of activities, such as youth health camps, the establishment and management of youth health clubs, creative sports activities, and strengthening community and stakeholder engagement to promote healthy lifestyles.

The curriculum will be developed collaboratively by curriculum development experts from DLEC and Kenan, ensuring that the content, learning processes, and implementation approaches are practical, contextually appropriate, and can be formally and sustainably integrated into the DLEC education system.

Output 2: Teachers equipped with the skills to effectively promote healthy lifestyles.

Strengthen teachers’ capacity by equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to deliver the curriculum effectively. This will be achieved by developing 36 Master Trainers, who will receive intensive training in adolescent health content, participatory learning methodologies, and behavior change approaches.

These Master Trainers will then cascade their knowledge and skills to 300 teachers across 33 DLECs, further expanding into the delivery of learning activities for youth. In addition, the project will establish provincial-level Collaborative Learning Circles to provide a platform for teachers to exchange experiences, learn from practical implementation, and continuously develop innovative teaching approaches. Academic experts and relevant government agencies will provide guidance and technical input, helping build a strong, sustainable implementation system that aligns with the Adolescent Healthy Lifestyles curriculum.
